The World Cup every two years?

This is the very serious suggestion of the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) to Fifa. Arguments in support.

Since the first edition, in 1930, and without stopping since 1950: the Football World Cup is played every four years, in a pattern similar to that of the Olympics, and alternating with the same Olympic milestones. Assuming that the League of Nations on a European scale is a success, the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) would like to revolutionize this historic pace.

Why not organize the World Cup every two years? This is the question submitted to Fifa by the Paraguayan President of CONMEBOL Alejandro Dominguez: "Instead of having a League of Nations in the middle, we should be doing a World Cup that will be for the whole planet every two years. Players will play four Worlds. With the current format, they can not play more than two", note the interested, relayed this Saturday in the pages of the Guardian.

"There are many options available. We could organize the tournament in Europe, South America, North America, Africa and Asia, without waiting too long for the current turn-over. We see this as a great opportunity, that's why a proposal was presented to Fifa", continues Alejandro Dominguez, before cutting down his final card, the most likely even to convince the international federation:"Economically, Fifa would certainly earn more money, which would redistribute even more."
