ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) – Damni Applewhite scored 21 points and dropped a dunk two seconds from the end, and the state of South Carolina defeated Coppin State 85-84 on Monday night.

Dejuan Clayton had 1 of 2 shots on goal and Coppin State led 84-81 with 27 seconds left. Taqwain Drummond immediately made a mistake on Applewhite who went to foul line and made a pair. Lavar Harewood managed to steal the next Eagles game to establish the winner of the Applewhite match.

Janai Raynor-Powell had 16 points and eight assists for the state of South Carolina (6-20, 4-6 Athletics Conference Middle East). Harewood added 16 points. Jahmari Etienne had 11 points for the hosts.

Clayton scored 30 points and scored six assists for the Eagles (5-21, 5-6). Kent Auslander added 14 points.

The Bulldogs improve to 2-0 against the Eagles this season. The state of South Carolina defeated the state of Coppin 70-68 on January 14th. The state of South Carolina will face Bethune-Cookman at home Saturday. Coppin State faces Maryland Eastern Shore on the road Saturday.
