NEW YORK (AP) – Charlie Brown Jr. scored 28 points as 10th seed, St. Joseph's, and seventh seed, Duquesne, 92-86, in the third of four games in the second round of the tournament from the Atlantic 10 th Thursday, Thursday.
Jared Bynum had 16 and Chris Clover added 15 for St. Joseph's (14-18), which will face Davidson, seeded second, in a quarterfinal match on Friday. The teams broke away from the regular season series and both teams won at home.
Eric Williams Jr. led the Dukes (19-13) with 23 points. Lamar Norman Jr. added 18 and Marcus Weathers finished with 17.
The match was played at a steady pace from the start of the match as both teams tried to attack the rim. Saint Joseph's ended the match with 48% field success (29 vs. 61) and 38% vs. 3 (11 vs. 29), while Duquesne scored 47% of his shots (31 of 66), including 9 out of 24 (38%). from 3
St. Joseph's used a 9-0 record on a 1:39 clock in the second half to turn a 75-74 lead into an 84-74 advantage. A Williams Jr. layup and a 47-second free throw from the restart would allow Duquesne to return in five minutes, 89-84, but Brown made two free throws and Bynum added another to put the game out of reach.
