5th place, Novak Djokovic (Serbia): 224 weeks number one in the world, first time on July 4, 2011, currently starting November 5, 2018.

Men's check

Will Novak Djokovic win his third major title in 2019? Can Rafael Nadal win for the fourth time in New York? And did Roger Federer recover from his bitter defeat at Wimbledon?

Novak Djokovic: The title path probably leads only to the defending champion. Djokovic is the man to beat in tennis since his win at Wimbledon in 2018 – including New York. On 32 occasions, the 32-year-old won at Flushing Meadows – in Cincinnati, he proved that he was still solid and had failed only on a formidable player, Daniil Medvedev.

ComeOn Sportsbook – Victory Rating: 2.15

Rafael Nadal: The good news in 2019? Rafa can also play again on hard ground – after almost two seasons, he could barely compete or finish a tournament on hard ground. The 32-year-old has already won three victories in New York (2010, 2013 and 2017).

Roger Federer: The Swiss have been unbeatable in New York for five years and triumphed at Flushing Meadows from 2004 to 2008. That was twice later in the final (2009, 2015), the year before, Federer had had big problems with the heat. The big question: has he recovered for the current edition after his bitter defeat at the end of the game at Wimbledon? If this is the case, Federer is one of the favorites because the 2019 form is correct!

Alexander Zverev: According to Zverev, the US Open should be the major breakthrough tournament – the current form does not speak for her. Too many parallel battle scenes in 2019 (with former coach Lendl and ex-manager Apey) have distracted tennis Zverev. The third round of last year is his best ever result in the Big Apple.

ComeOn Sportsbook – Victory Rate: 17

Dominic Thiem: The Austrian won the hearts of New Yorkers last year thanks to a five-set thriller against Rafael Nadal in the quarter-finals. With 6: 0, Thiem won the first set with a devastating ball, he brought back the decisive game in the final of his opponent in the semifinals. One thing is certain: Thiem can now play on hard ground, as he has impressively demonstrated at Indian Wells in the spring. Last time he was sick – but should have had enough time to recover.

While among the "Big 3" men, they are still very hot in the race and the game is gaping, the field is much narrower for the ladies. Is there a fourth different winner in the fourth major of the season?

Serena Williams: Three finals at the Grand Slam tournaments reached Williams after her pregnancy – three times she lost. Nevertheless, the major winner 23 times is the favorite of the race. And that makes sense: in the Grand Slam tournaments, the future is only progressing. After Serena, she is the big constant when it becomes serious.

Simona Halep: The Romanian was the favorite of the French Open – and finally won Wimbledon. Whatever it is, everything is possible in New York, and it's the only major that Halep did not reach in the final. Your best performance so far: the semifinals 2015. With their new serenity in 2019, they could be even more important!

ComeOn Sportsbook – Victory Rate: 8

Ashleigh Barty: The Australian is so far the most successful player of the year. He took off in Miami, where he won his biggest title to date and went even further to the French Open. Meanwhile, Barty has won 27 matches on 29 – strong! At Wimbledon, she failed surprisingly, but found her way back to Cincinnati but was lightly beaten.

ComeOn Sportsbook – Victory Rate: 10

Naomi Osaka: The reigning champion is back! After Osaka also won the Australian Open, it dropped to a low point. The separation of Sascha Bajin, a trial for a youth coach, to the new reputation of world superstar … Osaka had meanwhile lost the pleasure of playing tennis. For the US court season, the Japanese were up again. The question will be whether their knee problems in Cincinnati have further improved.

Angélique Kerber: The winner of 2016 is in a difficult position. The year 2019 began with an average level, followed by a clay field phase (also due to illness) and an anticipated outing as reigning champion at Wimbledon. Currently, Kerber has three consecutive defeats in New York. But: she knows how to win major tournaments!
