Lyon, France hosted the 2013 IPC World Athletics Championships between July 19-28.
Over 1,100 athletes from 98 countries took part in the event, which was the first major gathering of international track and field stars, following the successful London 2012 Paralympics.

Most of the medal winners in London competed in Lyon, while they began their preparations for the next Rio Games in 2016.

The International Paralympic Committee (CPI) is the global governing body of the Paralympic Movement and also functions as the International Federation for nine sports, including athletics.

The sport is governed by the CPI and is coordinated by the CPI Athletics Technical Committee, offering a wide range of competitions and events for male and female athletes from all groups with deficiencies.
